All of us in South Carolina, and many throughout the country, were focused on television news coverage of Hurricane Florence as it made landfall in Wilmington. For the most part, the South Carolina coastal communities avoided the damage from the initial impact. However, as the flood waters flowed into the Lynches, Little Pee Dee, Greater Pee Dee, and Winyah rivers, many South Carolina communities experienced record flood levels.
Last week the North Carolina Bankers Association announced a Hurricane Relief Fund to help bank employees who experienced losses from the hurricane. Many bankers and state bank associations have contributed to this fund. The ABA was among the first to support it with a $100,000 donation.
Because of the devastating floods now impacting many in South Carolina, we are collaborating with the North Carolina Bankers Association so that bankers in South Carolina can also benefit from this fund.
